the making of singgang ikan parang...

oookkaaayyyyy... let's start the ball rolling now...  i will start my posting proper with a 'making of...' ...  a making of a certain dish... basically, it will feature pictures and narrations.... a 'how-to' of sort....  but with twist... a lot of twist, if you will.. :D

sooo...the first 'making of' i will feature in this blog is naturally one of the first things i learn to cook.. .when i was a small young girl.. and that was quite a long time ago.. anyway....

the dish is singgang ikan parang.... some kind of spicy fish soup with plenty of herbs thrown in ...

here are the ingredients and the how-to :::

red onions, garlics, ginger, tomato(es) and red chillies

ikan parang or wolf-herring (but you can use any type of fish you fancy)

for aroma, add in some daun kunyit (tumeric leaves) and serai (err.. what's serai
in english? my memory fails me when i need it most - will get back to this later)

my daun kunyit is freshly cut from my garden...

so is my serai...

the tomatoes and the red chillies are for garnishing actually but they do provide some taste..
cut them up.. remove the chillies' seeds if you're scared of the heat... i do!

jullienne or cut up the onions, ginger and garlic...

put everything in a pot with a few cups of water and
some tumeric powder for color...and oh yes, some salt too...

boil it up for a while and add in the fish...

then add in some tamarind slices or asam keping..
and also the cut tomatoes and red chillies..

here it is now.... all ready... alternatively you can add in some green chillies for colors..

It's one of the most simplest dishes to cook and it tastes wonderfully eaten hot with rice... kalau ada sambal belacan lagi oompph.... well... :)
